A rather compact and fairly small goose with big white face patch, silvery upperparts, and black neck and breast sharply demarcated from white belly. Breeds mainly in Greenland, Iceland, and Spitsbergen, and locally around the Baltic Sea. Winters in farmland and grassy wetlands mainly in coastal lowlands throughout northern Europe. Barnacle Goose. Then, when someone realised that the Goose barnacle shell resembled the Barnacle goose's head, they decided that the geese must Barnacle Goose. On Barnacle Geese, mainly coloured legrings have been used. Black neckbands with white insctription have been used on a small number of birds in 2018.

The etymology of the term"barnacle" suggests Latin, Old English and French roots.
